It all started
with a book.
allow me to explain...
When I was a little girl,
my favorite time of year wasn't Christmas or summer vacation; it was the week of the missions conference at my local church. For that week only, I was inundated by a swell of new people all quite excited to tell me of their everyday adventures in far off lands. One year my mother, perhaps to stay the melancholy that usually accompanied the end of the conference, bought me a book, "Window on the World" as we made our way out of church on the final day. Naturally, I greedily flipped the book open as we walked to our car, and as if by fate, opened to the profile on Iraq.
"The Gulf war? Why didn't we help Iraq if Kuwait stole their oil?"
"Well, we don't know that Kuwait believes they did," came my mother's shrewd reply.
"So Iraq lied?"
"Not necessarily."
In that moment, I learned a valuable lesson
It's rarely as easy as right or wrong. Reality is shaped by a mosaic of legitimate perspectives and neglecting those points of view breeds conflict
That tiny moment would occupy a small corner of my mind for years to come.
I decided, almost unconsciously, that I wanted to develop perfect empathy. I wanted to be the person who understood and forged connections with that insight. So I studied language, observed custom and witnessed history on the ground rather than on the screen.

And from collecting perspectives to translating them for others, to helping parties navigate their differences, bridging has always been my work
